What is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal disease is caused by plaque build up. This disease is characterized by inflamed, infected gums, and affects the tissues that support the teeth, including the gums and bone. The goal of periodontal therapy is to:
- Remove plaque
- Eliminate bacteria
- Reduce inflammation
Modern Treatments for Periodontitis
There have been major advances in non-surgical periodontal treatment for chronic periodontal disease. Our dental clinic utilizes many of these modern innovations, such as:

- State-of-the-art ultrasonic scalers designed by a periodontist for maximum effectiveness in cleaning root surfaces of the teeth.
- Antibiotic gels, placed below the gum line, that can curtail the growth of bacteria and reduce the need for periodontal surgery.
- A dental endoscope, a camera that can be placed below the gum line, which allows us to see the root surfaces and tooth structures that would otherwise require surgery to be seen.
