Hi, I am Jenna. I am one of the hygienists here at Biltmore Commons Dental Care. I have been a hygienist with this office for six years and I’ve been in the dental profession for 13 years total. And prior to working at this office, I’ve worked with plenty of dentists who have done Invisalign treatment for their patients who recommended it for me, but I never saw the value in it for myself until I started working with Dr. Sadowski and seeing him doing his mini makeovers. So what the mini makeover consists of is Invisalign treatment and then whitening and then it’s cosmetic bonding and that goes on your front teeth from your canine to your canine and all the front teeth. So I had never had braces as a kid and I just had some mild overlapping, little bit of crowding of my lower front teeth. Didn’t really bother me much except for I’d always get this really stubborn stain on the inside of my lower front teeth and I’d go get my teeth cleaned every six months.
My hygienist would really have to work at getting that out. I became a hygienist myself. I would get in there all the time getting the stain out and it would just always come right back. When Dr. Sudowski did my Invisalign treatment for me, he undid that overlapping straight in my teeth, put them in their correct positioning and now I can get my floss all the way down in there. I can keep it really clean. I get my toothbrush back there and I no longer get that staining. I feel like so many of our patients come in and they complain to me about flossing. They say their teeth are too tight together. They can’t get the floss in there. It is shredding, it’s ripping. They don’t want to do it. Well, when you don’t floss, you get plaque and tartar build up underneath the gum line.
That stuff causes gingivitis, causes infection, can lead to bone loss and that bone is what holds your teeth in your mouth. It’s the foundation. So if you start losing bone, you can start losing teeth. My whole job as a hygienist is to try and prevent that. So why not just put the teeth in their correct position, do that Invisalign, make it so much easier for yourself to floss and keep things really clean and healthy. Another really awesome benefit to Dr. Sudowski’s mini makeover is this cosmetic bonding that he does. He places bonding just on the edges of your teeth from the canine to canine and all across the front teeth. And what that, for me, I have a really awesome habit of clenching my teeth together. I do it in my sleep. If I’m really focused at work, if I’m at the gym and my teeth are really clenched together, even grinding them together.
So over time that process, it causes damage to your teeth. It gave me gum recession. My teeth are more sensitive to cold, sweet. And I had these little chips on my front teeth and my canines. They were worn super flat. You could tell exactly where I liked to grind my favorite side to grind my teeth together. When you wear your canines flat, those are the corners of the mouth. They’re supposed to be pointed. They’re supposed to be pretty. So when you wear those flat, then you start wearing on the teeth behind those and those turn flat. And then behind that it’s a snowball effect. Then you start cracking teeth and needing crowns and spending all this money for restorative. When instead he does these bondings on the edges of the front teeth and what that did is it fixed all my little chips and fractures right here, but it also made my canines pointy and pretty and that guided my teeth and it protects them.
So now I don’t grind on those back teeth anymore. It’s almost like a little bumper on my canines. And if I’m clenching during the day, if I’m really focused, I have that protection. I’m clenching or grinding on his material, that little bit of material there instead of grinding my teeth flatter and flatter. So for function to keep my teeth healthy and strong, it’s going to make it last way longer. So my Invisalign process, it was supposed to be about 15 weeks. I did have one stubborn tooth that didn’t want to rotate all the way. It wasn’t wanting to turn, so we ended up going a full 20 weeks. We had re-scanned and made sure to do refinements, but that’s one thing I love about working with Dr. Sudowski. He is a little bit of a perfectionist so am I, but he wants to get that tooth perfect.
If it stays tilted or crooked, it can reflect light. It can look weird. It would look weird in pictures and he doesn’t want that. He wants it to be great and he wants you to be absolutely happy with those end results. So it’s worth it to me to spend that extra time and I’m so grateful that he does that. He didn’t only do it with me working here and going through it. He does that with all of his patients. He really cares and that’s awesome. So after I did my Invisalign, my mini makeover with Dr. Sudowski, I saw how much of a difference it made even just doing such little treatment. It wasn’t a lot and I recommended it to my husband, a couple family members have done it and anytime that I can, I’m definitely recommending it to patients, not only to get them that pretty beautiful smile that they want those cosmetics, but to help with their function, to help keep them protected and to help them get that floss in there, which is going to be your hygienist’s favorite part of it all.
